Description: the first DEEP PURPLE biorefinery based on the used of Purple Phototrophic Bacteria (PPB) has been implemented at the waste water treatment plant located in Linares (Jaén Spain), see Imagen0. This wastewater treatment plant is operated by Aqualia and owned by Linares Council. This plant uses conventional activated sludge technology and has a treatment capacity of 15,000 m3/d. The following actions have been carried out:
- Implementation of anaerobic photobioreactors operated for treating up to 350 m3/d of municipal wastewater for the production of enriched PPB biomass (Biomass Platform) as feedstock for production of slow-release fertilizers. Treated water complies with discharge limits for COD, TSS and BDO5.
- Implementation of a commercial filter solution for cellulose separation from wastewater with a cellulose production of 25 kg/d
