DEEP PURPLE proposes an integrated treatment of urban bio waste in a novel Multi-Platform concept as a key option to implement a synergic treatment of relevant waste streams of urban origin (mixed waste streams, separately collected organic waste, wastewater and the organic fraction of sewage sludge).
To demonstrate the innovative DEEP PURPLE concept, two DEEP PURPLE Multiplatform Biorefineries will be constructed in representative real bio-waste treatment facilities in Spain and the Czech Republic. These processes will be used to recover resources from urban bio-waste to provide a secure and sustainable supply of biomass feedstock to be further transformed into high added-value products for different industrial sectors.

A biomethanation facility of Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (OFMSW), run by Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC SA) and a Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), run by AQUALIA in Spain and a Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), run by SmVaK in the Czech Republic.

The performance of these biorefineries will be assessed under real conditions with different characteristics in terms of composition of waste streams, environmental conditions, logistics and/or business models.
